Baohang Automotive secures corner-radar contract from VinFast

Beijing (Gasgoo)- Radar maker Baohang Automotive, the joint venture between Chinese auto parts supplier Baolong Automotive and Chuhang Technology, has successfully secured the corner radar contract for Vietnamese automaker VinFast's VF series comprising five vehicle models, according to Baolong’s announcement on January 23.

The designated corner radar contract spans a lifecycle of 5 years, projecting an estimated total sales value of around 170 million yuan. Production is slated to commence in 2024. This marks Baohang Automotive's continued collaboration with VinFast, following the first designated supply order for a VinFast model in 2022 and subsequent mass production in 2023. The latest corner radar contract encompasses the entire VF series lineup.

The corner radar developed by Baohang Automotive boasts high integration, enabling a single-chip radar to fulfill multiple functions such as Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Lane Change Assist (LCA), Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA), and Door Opening Warning (DOW). It is designed for automatic calibration, adaptive installation on both sides, and features compact size, lightweight, and low power consumption. Moreover, it has achieved the highest five-star certification from ASEAN NCAP.

VinFast, established in 2017 as a subsidiary of Vietnam's largest private enterprise Vingroup, transitioned into the country's first domestic electric vehicle maker in 2022. Listed in the U.S. in 2023, VinFast briefly held a market value exceeding $200 billion, making it the world's third-largest automotive company by market capitalization. The company produces and sells a comprehensive range of electric SUVs and electric buses for the Vietnamese, North American, and upcoming European markets.
