WeRide deploys L4 self-driving sanitation vehicles in Zhengzhou, Henan Province

Beijing (Gasgoo)- On January 26, the inauguration ceremony of the autonomous sanitation project in Zhengzhou Economic Development Zone was successfully held, marking a significant collaboration between leading autonomous driving technology company WeRide, Zhengzhou City Administration Bureau, Zhengzhou Economic Development Zone Management Committee, and Ourland Environmental Technology Co., Ltd.

The four parties officially signed an agreement to jointly create Zhengzhou's first commercial autonomous sanitation project, also the first Level 4 autonomous driving sanitation commercial project in Henan province.

The WeRide autonomous sanitation vehicles (Robosweepers) deployed in Zhengzhou feature Level 4 autonomous driving technology, operating at speeds of 5-10 km/h during sanitation work. These vehicles can stably run throughout the day, under all weather conditions and in various scenarios, contributing to the continuous development of a smart city in Zhengzhou Economic Development Zone.

Launched in 2022, the WeRide Robosweeper is China's first factory-installed mass-produced autonomous driving sanitation vehicle and the industry's first open-road sanitation vehicle supporting operations without a safety operator onboard. It aligns closely with the ongoing intelligent transformation and upgrade in the sanitation industry, providing services such as road cleaning, dust suppression, and more. Compared to traditional operation modes, these vehicles boast a 40% increase in vehicle utilization, a 50% improvement in operational duration, and a 30% increase in collaborative operational efficiency, according to WeRide’s calculations.

Currently, the Zhengzhou Economic Development Zone autonomous sanitation project covers 16 complex urban roads, totaling 21.8 kilometers, within an 800,000-square-meter enclosed area. The initial deployment includes several autonomous driving vehicles and is complemented by electric and hydrogen-powered sanitation equipment.
