BYD is considering supplying battery to rivals

Shanghai (Gasgoo)-Recently, Wang Chuanfu, chairman of BYD, said in an interview that Daimler and BYD plans to expand their cooperation to introduce more models under the brand of DENZA.

Since the establishment of DENZA, there is only a pure electric model under the brand. Taking the latest DENZA 400 as an example, it is equipped with a 62kWh lithium iron phosphate battery with the maximum range of 352km under the integrated operating condition. The maximum power of the motor it carries is 184 horsepower and the peak torque is 300 Nm. The acceleration time of 0-100km / h is 10.5 seconds.

Because of its low popularity, DENZA does not have any advantage in price. According to the data released by China Association of Automobile Manufacturer, the sales of DENZA in the first eight months of 2017 reached 1,574 units. According to the official announcement released by BYD, revenue of DENZA in last year was 432 million yuan, with a net loss of 1.3 billion yuan. The revenue in the first quarter of this year is 96.37 million yuan, with a net loss of 72.5 million yuan. BYD and Daimler are unwilling to see the loss, and they both have increased investment in the DENZA. As the introduction of more and more models in the future, opportunity for DENZA may come.

In addition, Wang Chuanfu said BYD is considering providing battery for competitors when faced with the changes in the policy environment. He also said that BYD is expected to announce the first battery-supply contract by the end of this year.
