Didi marches into new energy vehicle industry

Shanghai (Gasgoo)–It is learned that Didi begins to plan to set up a new energy vehicle service company. "At present, Didi has started a new JV NEV service company with the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO). And Xiaoju Charging Systems is also under preparation." said Cheng Wei, Founder and CEO of Didi. According to Cheng Wei's plan, Didi will firstly launch more than 1 million NEVs on its platform before 2020, enabling Didi to be the world's first ride-sharing company which takes a substantive action on new energy vehicles.

As we all know, new energy vehicles are mostly bought by households. However, new energy vehicles are not so cost-efficient due to its high purchasing cost and low usage cost. Therefore, the new energy vehicles are not very popular. After all, it is not easy for every family to build their own charging pile.

Although Chinese government has formulated policies to encourage people to buy NEVs, the popularity of new energy vehicles still holds relatively low. And due to the difficulties of charging piles, people become more careful when they are going to buy NEVs.

The entering of Didi has great significance for the new energy industry. At present, there are 260,000 new energy vehicles on Didi’s platform, which means there is one NEV from Didi in every eight NEVs worldwide.

In addition to popularizing NEVs on the platform, Cheng Wei also added that Didi and GEIDCO have jointly set up the Global New Energy Vehicle Services Co., Ltd. to promote the popularity of new energy vehicles and the development of NEV industry. Besides, Didi will also build a battery charging and transforming system for new energy vehicles.

In Cheng Wei's opinion, intelligence and sharing will promote the sustainable development of the global transportation industry. “We believe that not everyone need to possess a car in the future, and cars can be shared with the advent of the Internet and smart dispatch, which will help to reduce congestion as well as promote green and low-carbon sustainable development."
