GAC Toyota to make all-electric C-HR with annual production of 44,000 units

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Toyota officially unveiled its C-HR-based electric variants the GAC-Toyota-built electric C-HR and the FAW-Toyota-built counterpart, the IZOA for the Chinese market at the Shanghai Auto Show on April 16. The models will be the first BEVs to launch in China under the Toyota brand. Sales of the new models are slated to start from 2020.

According to GAC Toyota, the company is establishing the fourth production line to produce an electric model dubbed 711B and other NEVs. The 711B, having the same size as the current C-HR, is very likely to be the battery electric C-HR and will compete with such models as Hyundai’s pure electric Encino, GAC NE’s GE3 and Ford Territory EV. The annual production of the new model will be about 44,000 units.

Different from the fuel oil one, it boosts sport features such as the black trim across its front face. In addition, the logo to show its EV identification is added on the front face, rear fender and the rear.                  

The range of the all-electric C-HR is expected to reach 400-500km.

As to the battery, Toyota announced a collaboration with Chinese battery giant CATL in June this year to support its China-made EVs.

Beginning with the debut of the electrified C-HR and IZOA in China, Toyota plans to roll out more than ten BEV models globally during the first half of the 2020s and to sell more than 5.5 million electrified vehicles globally by 2030.
