Car and City: March 2022 registrations of NIO models
Shanghai (Gasgoo)- In March 2022, NIO's new vehicle registrations stood at 9,829 units, surging 42.2% from the previous year, while also zooming up 73.5% from the previous month, according to the data compiled by Gasgoo Auto Research Institute (GARI).
Regarding March registrations of locally-made new energy passenger vehicles (NEPVs), NIO ranked 13th among all auto brands in China, following its domestic startup rivals XPeng (6th), Li Auto (11th), and NETA (12th).
There were a total of 25,671 NIO-branded vehicles registered through the first quarter of 2022, representing a 29.4% growth compared to the prior-year period.
The ES6 accounted for 51.5% of NIO's vehicle registrations in March. Last month, the startup's biggest sales contributor recorded a 62.4% growth month-over-month, while also scored a 70.9% leap year-over-year. Among homemade NEPV models in China, the ES6 ranked 22th by March registrations, dropping 1 spot from the previous month.
In March, Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Jinhua were the only three cities in China recording an ES6 registration volume of over 300 units. Beijing ranked 10th, sliding 6 spots from February. The other two first-tier cities, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, were not included on the top 10 cities list.
The monthly registrations of the EC6 reached 3,023 units in March, shooting up 87.4% from a month earlier, while also rising 21.7% from a year ago. For the first three months of the year, 7,622 EC6s were registered across China, reflecting a 2.2% year-over-year increase.
With regard to March registrations of the EC6, Shanghai and Guangzhou entered the top 10 cities list, but Beijing and Shenzhen didn’t. Besides, four cities cracking the top 10 city rankings were from Zhejiang province, three of which occupied the No.2-No.4 places.
The ES8's registrations in March also reflected a growth compared to both the year-ago period and the previous month. Among the ES8s registered last month, 1,053 and 522 were registered by private and business users respectively.
Last month, there were only two cities in China with over 100 ES8s registered. Regarding March registrations of the ES8, Chengdu moved up two spots to the runner-up place, while Zhejiang province also had four cities on the top 10 cities list.
On March 28, NIO kicked off the scale delivery of its fourth production model, the ET7. In the same month, the ET7’s registrations reached 172 units, which resulted in a cumulative volume of 229 units.
Of the ET7s registered last month, 21% were contributed by Shanghai. Besides, Jinhua and Beijing ranked second and third with 11 and 10 ET7s registered respectively.
