Car and City: April 2022 registrations of NIO models

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- In April 2022, NIO's new vehicle registrations stood at 5,304 units, sliding 28.4% from the previous year, while also tumbling 46% from the previous month, according to the data compiled by Gasgoo Auto Research Institute (GARI).

Regarding April registrations of locally-made new energy passenger vehicles (NEPVs), NIO ranked 11th among all auto brands in China, following its domestic startup rivals NETA (5th), XPeng (6th), and Leapmotor (9th).

There were a total of 30,975 NIO-branded vehicles registered through the Jan.-Apr. period, representing a 13.7% growth compared to the corresponding span of the last year.

As for the regional distribution, Shanghai, which was supposed to be a main sales region of NIO’s vehicles, failed to enter the top 10 cities list by April registrations of all NIO models.

The ES6 accounted for 38.7% of NIO's vehicle registrations in April, which were 12.8 percentage points lower than that of the previous month. The model recorded a 59.4% plunge month-over-month in April registrations, while also logged a 37.9% drop year-over-year. Among homemade NEPV models in China, the ES6 ranked 35th by April registrations, sliding 13 spots from the month-ago period.

By April registrations of the ES6, Beijing and Foshan were the top 2 cities, while the volumes of the third to fifth ones were quite close.

The monthly registrations of the EC6 reached 1,382 units in April, 80.9% of which were registered by private users.

With regard to April registrations of the EC6, Foshan topped other cities as the only one with over 100 units registered. Shenzhen and Guangzhou, ranking 2nd and 8th respectively, were also from Guangdong province.

Last month, the ES8 registrations also declined both year-on-year and month-on-month.

In April, Beijing and Chengdu were the only two cities in China with over 100 ES8s registered. The April ES8 registrations of Shenzhen were equal to that of Foshan.

The ET7 was the unique NIO-branded model that achieved a month-on-month growth due to a low month-ago base.

Beijing registered the most ET7s in April. There were four cities (Shenzhen, Foshan, Guangzhou, and Dongguan) from Guangdong province among the top 10 cities by April ET7 registrations.
