Dongfeng Forthing plans to stop oil-fueled vehicle production in five years

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Dongfeng Forthing, a car manufacturer under Dongfeng Motor Group, aims to stop producing fossil-fueled vehicles within the next five years, as part of the new energy vehicle (NEV) brand strategy, named "Guanghe (meaning 'photosynthetic') Future" the automaker released on Nov. 24.

The company expects its total investment in the NEV business to exceed 20 billion yuan ($2.793 billion) by 2030. During the past three years, Dongfeng Forthing poured around 5 billion yuan ($698.227 million) in developing its NEV cause.

At the launch event, Dongfeng Forthing introduced two NEV-dedicated technical products, namely, the EMA-E architecture and the Kaijia (meaning "armour") Battery.

According to the company, the EMA-E architecture is available for various vehicle types, such as sedans, SUVs, and MPVs, and can support the development of vehicles in different wheelbases and wheel tracks. In the future, Dongfeng Forthing's new NEV models will all be built on the EMA-E architecture.

The carmaker names the new battery "Kaijia" because the battery features the protective technologies from the four levels of cell, battery module, battery pack, and complete vehicle to ensure battery safety, just like a warrior armed with a suit of armour.

At the same time, Dongfeng Forthing unveiled two fire new models, namely, its first all-electric SUV Forthing Leiteng and a flagship MPV concept.

The Forthing Leiting is equipped with the Kaijia Battery, which offers the vehicle a range of up to 630km, and comes with an IP68 waterproof rating. The model features 12 driver assistance functions and the HMI2.0 interaction system developed in partnership with Tencent, in a bid to provide users with more intelligent and safer car using experience.

Coming with two variants regarding ranges (430km and 630km), the Leiting SUV is now available for presale.
