BYD scores 152.46% YoY surge in 2022 auto sales
Shanghai (Gasgoo)- For the year of 2022, BYD Company Limited ("BYD") sold a total of 1,868,543 vehicles, representing a year-on-year hike of 152.46%, according to the announcement the company issued on Monday.
Of the vehicles sold last year, 1,863,494 units were new energy vehicles (NEVs), reflecting a surge of 208.64% year-over-year. In the NEV segment, there were 1,857,379 passenger vehicles sold in 2022, including 911,140 battery electric vehicles (+184.01% YoY) and 946,239 plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (+246.69% YoY).
In Dec. 2022, BYD saw its monthly sales once again hit a new high with 235,197 vehicles sold, which zoomed up 137.3% over the previous year. Notably, as of Dec. 2022, the company had achieved a month-on-month increase for the 10th month in a row.

NEVs made up 100% of BYD's Dec. auto sales. Compared to the year-ago period, BYD's NEV sales shot up 150.36% to 235,197 units last month.
Passenger vehicles accounted for 99.75% of the company's NEV sales in Dec. Nevertheless, BYD only sold 599 new energy commercial vehicles last month, which plunged 46.61% from a year earlier.
In addition, 11,320 units of the passenger vehicles sold in Dec. were exported overseas, resulting in a full-year passenger vehicle export volume of 55,916 units (+307.2% YoY).
DENZA, the premium auto brand majority-backed by BYD, sold 6,002 vehicles in Dec., reflecting a 73.9% leap month-over-month. For the fourth quarter of this year, cumulative sales of DENZA-branded vehicles amounted to 9,803 units.
