Shanghai (Gasgoo)- CATL announced on Monday its majority-owned subsidiary, Guangdong Brunp Recycling Technology Co., Ltd. ("Brunp Recycling" or "the company"), plans to launch an integrated new materials industrial project in Foshan city, Guangdong province, as part of efforts to improve its layouts in recycling and disposal of decommissioned power batteries, which are regarded as one of the important sources of power battery materials.

The whole project will involve an investment of no more than 23.8 billion yuan ($3.524 billion), which will come from Brunp Recycling’s own funds or be raised by the company itself.

Under the project, a base that covers 2,965 mu (around 1.977 million square meters) of land will be built with the capability of recycling 500,000-tonne waste batteries per year, and using the batteries recycled to produce LFP and ternary cathode materials, as well as the graphite applied in anodes.

The project is set to be completed in four years, according to CATL's announcement.

CATL said the implementation of this project would contribute to further improving its overall strategic layout in the lithium new energy industry chain and battery recycling business. Leveraging the location advantages of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, it will help CATL to boost the development of its lithium ion battery materials and relevant recycling businesses, and lower production costs.
