CATL to set up international headquarters in Hong Kong, China

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On December 7, the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks (“HKSTP”) and CATL inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU). CATL announced its plans to establish an international R&D center at the HKSTP, with a total investment exceeding HKD 1.2 billion, according to a post on CATL's WeChat account. This initiative aims to help foster technological innovation in new energy and propel sustainable development in Hong Kong, China.

As part of this collaboration, CATL not only positions its R&D center in Hong Kong but also establishes an international headquarters and an international investment center in the region. 

According to the agreement, the HKSTP will support CATL in actively participating in and collaborating on business operations in key areas such as energy, transportation, industry, and infrastructure in Hong Kong. This collaboration aims to advance the green manufacturing of new energy products and the investment and development of renewable energy in Hong Kong. The two parties will jointly build a trustworthy and sustainable new energy storage system, contributing to the green transformation of maritime, land, and air transportation in Hong Kong and fostering the development of a green economy.

Welcoming CATL to set up its international headquarters, Paul Chan Mo-po, financial secretary of the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), disclosed that CATL's international headquarters is expected to employ over 500 staff, with an investment exceeding HKD 1 billion. Furthermore, he emphasized that CATL's presence in Hong Kong will not be a solo endeavor, as its partners across the industry spectrum will also contribute to the development in the region.

Chairman and CEO of CATL, Zeng Yuqun, expressed confidence in Hong Kong as a renowned international business hub with robust intellectual property protection systems. He highlighted the strategic utilization of Hong Kong's free-flowing information for the establishment of CATL's headquarters, enhancing the company's global market presence.

Mr. Zeng underscored CATL's commitment to R&D, with the existing 18,000 technology professionals continually increasing their patent holdings. The Hong Kong headquarters will focus on patent-related research, operational excellence, and further intensify R&D efforts.
