NIO hits milestone of deploying 2,300 battery swap stations across China

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On December 21, NIO announced the official launch of its 2,300th battery swap station in China, marking a significant achievement as it rapidly approaches the completion of its "Thousand Stations Plan" set for the year of 2023.

This year alone, NIO has already established 995 new battery swap stations, leaving just 5 more to fulfill its ambitious target.

In February of this year, NIO's CEO, William Bin Li, outlined the company's plans to add 1,000 new battery swap stations across China in 2023, a notable increase from the initial goal of 400 stations announced at the NIO Day 2022 in December of the previous year. The cumulative target for the end of 2023 was set at over 2,300 stations, compared to the 1,305 stations by the end of 2022.

As of December 21, 2023, NIO has achieved its cumulative goal of 2,300 battery swap stations, with 743 located along expressways. Besides, it has also deployed 3,559 electric vehicle charging stations with 20,901 charging piles, and had access to over 960,000 third-party charging piles. The company aims to complete a comprehensive battery swap network covering 9 north-south and 9 east-west expressways connecting 19 major city clusters in China by 2025.

NIO is also seeking external cooperation for its power swap business. In late November, NIO announced agreements with Changan Automobile and Geely Holding Group to cooperate in various areas, including battery swap standards, technology, service network development and operations, and the R&D and customization of battery swappable car models. Furthermore, William Bin Li disclosed plans to engage in battery swap-related collaborations with 4-5 other automakers in the near future.
