Shanghai (Gasgoo)- The BYD M9 is set to hit the Mexican market on June 25, according to a Chinese media outlet.

Official images of the vehicle have recently surfaced, confirming that the BYD M9 is essentially the export version of the BYD Xia, tailored for markets outside China, with Mexico being the first stop.

Domestically, the BYD Xia is offered in five variants, all of which are plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), priced between 249,800 yuan and 309,800 yuan. Positioned in the mid-to-large MPV segment, the BYD Xia competes with models such as the Toyota Sienna and the DENZA D9 DM.

Design-wise, the BYD M9 closely mirrors the styling of the Xia. Its front end features a large, matrix-style grille shutter and aerodynamic air vents flanking the lower bumper.

The side profile maintains the same flowing lines, with a prominent beltline stretching from the front fender to the rear tail lamp. It sports traditional door handles and multi-spoke alloy wheels. At the rear, the BYD M9 retains the Xia's full-width taillight design, with a "BYD" logo beneath the lights and the model designation "M9" on the tailgate's right side.

Inside, the BYD M9 will offer two interior color schemes ("Brown + Beige" and "Deep Blue + Beige"), and feature a seven-seat configuration, alongside a wraparound cockpit layout inherited from the BYD Xia. The steering wheel logo has been updated from the Chinese "Xia" character to the BYD logo for global consistency. Key features include a floating central touchscreen, wireless smartphone charging, 360-degree safety airbags, and BYD's 3D intelligent cockpit system.

Comfort amenities also abound, with 3-zone automatic climate control standard across the lineup. Select models will be fitted with a built-in refrigerator capable of cooling, freezing, or heating — ideal for everyday food and beverage storage.

The BYD M9 may receive region-specific tweaks to its driver assistance system to better suit local regulations and road conditions, but it is expected to share the same L2 system found in the BYD Xia. This suite includes BYD's DiPilot 100 system, powered by an 84-TOPS NVIDIA DRIVE Orin N chip. The system supports seven active safety warnings, automatic parking, and highway navigation assist — features that exceed typical L2 capabilities. Practical technologies such as built-in dash cams and wireless charging are also likely to carry over.

Under the hood, the BYD M9 adopts BYD's fifth-generation DM technology, equipped with a 1.5-liter PHEV-dedicated system. Taking the Xia as reference, this setup delivers a maximum engine output of 115kW and and a peak torque of 225N·m, with a high-efficiency electric motor that contributes a combined output of 200kW.

In terms of dimensions, the BYD M9 matches the Xia, measuring over 5,000mm in length and a wheelbase of exceeding 3,000mm. Its luggage capacity starts at 470 liters, expanding to 2,036 liters with the rear seats folded, providing ample room for cargo on longer journeys.
