Geely Auto launches mid-to-high-end NEV sub-brand ‘Galaxy’
Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On Feb. 23, Geely Auto wrapped off its fresh new energy vehicle (NEV) sub-brand “Galaxy” ("Yinhe" in Chinese Pinyin), which is targeting the mid-to-high-end vehicle market.
The Geely Galaxy includes two product series, namely, the "L" and the "E", which focuses on hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) and battery electric vehicles (BEVs), respectively. It will adopt a completely new brand image, Geely’s new-generation styling design, and a fire new sales and service channel ecosystem.

The new sub-brand is expected to help Geely Auto double its annual NEV sales this year to 600,000 units.
With the advent of the Galaxy series, Geely brand will be composed of three product series that satisfy users’ demands in oil-fueled, hybrid, and full-electric vehicle sectors.
The other two series are the Gee Star (“Jixing” in Chinese Pinyin) and the Geometry. To be specific, the Gee Star consists of four lines, namely, the China Star, the Bo family, the Bin family, and the Emgrand, further cementing Geely’s existing customer base in the fuel-burning vehicle sector. The Geometry will be part of the mass-market all-electric vehicle lineups under the Geely brand.
Geely Auto said it should continue to speed up its transition to the NEV era, while further firming its consumer base in the oil fueled vehicle market, which makes the launch of the Galaxy series timely.
Geely Auto sold around 1.433 million vehicles (+8% YoY) in 2022, 328,727 units of which were NEVs. Notably, the penetration rate of Geely’s NEVs in 2022 has tripled over the previous year, with several months seeing a percentage exceeding 30%, indicating a growing recognition from both the market and consumers over Geely’s NEV products.
The Geely Galaxy will be endowed with an all-new channel system, allowing users to buy vehicles and enjoy services through both the automaker’s self-built stores and dealerships. Consumers can place orders via an online platform with transparent prices, and have test drives and experience car delivery service offline. The automaker will deploy direct-sale shops for the new sub-brand in such first-tier cities as Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Shenzhen.
In addition, Geely will launch a dedicated mobile App for Galaxy that enables users to find the communities they are interested in.
Over the next two years, Geely Galaxy plans to roll out seven heavyweight models in total. To be specific, four models will be from the HEV-dedicated L series, of which the first SUV (the Galaxy L7) and the first sedan (the Galaxy L6) will be delivered in the second and third quarters of this year. The BEV-focused E series will launch three models, of which its first product, the E8, will be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2023.
At the launch ceremony, the Galaxy L7 made its premiere with its reservation kicking off at the same time. Positioned as an A-segment SUV, the L7 will boast three key innovative technologies, namely, the Aegis battery safety system, the NordThor Hi.X 8848 electric hybrid technology, and the brand-new Galaxy NOS (Geely’s full-stack in-house developed distributed operating system).

Meanwhile, Geely Galaxy’s intelligent electric prototype, the Galaxy Light, was unveiled to demonstrate the results of Geely’s Ripple aesthetics being inherited and evolved in the new era.

The Galaxy Light is a wide-bodied electric coupe with a low center of gravity, rendering a posture resembling a "crounching tiger". Thanks to the concise and smooth profile, the vehicle boasts an exceptional aerodynamic performance with a drag coefficient of only 0.19Cd.
The prototype indicates that the Galaxy Light's cockpit offers a spacious seating room. The massive through-type screen, coupled with the LED displays at left and right door panels, and flexible displays for the rear seats, renders a futuristic atmosphere that makes passengers amidst the galaxy and replicates the beauty of China's poetic scenic spot, West Lake.

The design that integrates the suspended audio system, fragrance dispenser, and the ambient lights is inspired by the “Three Pools Mirroring the Moon”, which is honored as the “First Scenic Spot of West Lake”.
In addition, the central armrest box is designed with the West Lake shoreline as inspiration, with light and shadow interweaved and water rippled.
The prototype car adopts a minimalist exterior design approach, integrating three "technology integration zones" throughout the car body.
One of the said zones is at the car’s front, forming a “three-in-one” design layout that includes high-definition cameras, radars, and information display panels.
The tech integration zone at the body’s sides gathers such facilities together as air curtains, streaming rearview mirrors, concealed door handles, NFC unlocking area, charging port, outdoor mobile charging power supply, outdoor mobile lighting tools, etc.
Stretching from the roof to the rear end, LiDAR units, high-mount break lamps, cameras, and drone modules are installed to enable a safe intelligent driving experience with the best sensing precision.
