BYD’s monthly auto sales surpass 240,000 units for first time
Shanghai (Gasgoo)- BYD Company Limited (“BYD”) saw its monthly auto sales hit a new high of 240,220 units in May 2023, representing a 108.99% year-on-year spike and a 14.23% month-on-month growth. It was also the first month for BYD to see the monthly number exceed 240,000 units.
For the first five months of this year, the leading Chinese new energy vehicle maker sold 1,002,591 vehicles in total, which surged 95.68% from the previous year.
According to BYD’s latest monthly sales results, the company’s passenger vehicle (PV) sales zoomed up 109.39% year on year to 239,092 units last month, including 10,203 vehicles exported to overseas market.

Of the PVs sold in May, 119,603 units were contributed by the battery electric vehicle (BEV) sector, reflecting a robust soar of 124.19% from a year earlier. Besides, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), namely, BYD’s DM models, accounted for 49.98% of the company’s May PV sales.
Regarding the performance of specific product series, the combined sales of BYD’s Dynasty and Ocean series reached 228,087 units in May, shooting up 99.8% from a year ago.
DENZA, the premium auto brand majority-owned by BYD, recorded a sales volume of 11,005 units last month, versus the 10,526 units sold in April.
In addition, BYD also sold 1,128 commercial vehicles (+48.42% YoY) in May, resulting in a year-to-date CV sales of 6,115 units (+109.49% YoY).
