Tesla Shanghai Gigafactory produces its 5 millionth battery pack

On November 12, 2025, Tesla announced that the Shanghai Gigafactory has produced its 5 millionth battery pack, marking a major milestone for the facility.

The battery packs, composed of cells and other structural components, are independently developed by Tesla, featuring proprietary cell chemistry and battery pack designs with high energy density, strong performance, and exceptional cold resistance.

Tesla stated that its battery systems are designed to outlast the vehicle lifecycle, with a longer cycle life than the cars themselves.

The battery packs produced at the Shanghai Gigafactory are widely used in Tesla's Model 3 and Model Y vehicles.

Located in Shanghai's Lingang New Area, the Gigafactory covers 860,000 square meters. It is Tesla's first overseas vehicle production facility and China's first wholly foreign-owned automobile manufacturing project, with production starting at the end of 2019.

In July 2024, the Shanghai Gigafactory produced its 10 millionth electric drive system, marking another global milestone for Tesla's in-house powertrain innovation.

In November 2024, the plant also celebrated the 3 millionth vehicle off the production line and the 1 millionth vehicle exported overseas. The factory delivered over 916,000 vehicles in 2024, accounting for roughly half of Tesla's global deliveries.

According to data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), Tesla sold 61,497 China-made electric vehicles in October 2025.

China's NEV exports surpass 2 million units in January–October 2025

On November 12, 2025, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) reported that China's new energy vehicle (NEV) exports reached 2.014 million units from January to October 2025, up 90.4% year on year—the first time NEV exports have surpassed 2 million units.

In October 2025, China exported 256,000 NEVs, an increase of 15.4% month on month and 99.9% year on year.

Passenger NEVs: 250,000 units, up 15.3% month on month and 100% year on year.

Commercial NEVs: 6,000 units, up 20.6% month on month and 26.7% year on year.

Between January and October 2025, China exported 1.944 million passenger NEVs (+89.3% YoY) and 70,000 commercial NEVs (+130% YoY), showing faster growth on the commercial side despite a smaller base.

China exported 1.284 million NEVs in 2024, representing 6.7% annual growth. At the current rate, 2025's total exports are projected to nearly double from the previous year.

Domestically, NEVs accounted for 51.6% of all new-vehicle sales in October 2025, the first time NEV market share surpassed 50%, signaling rapid growth in both domestic and international markets.

RoboSense lidar shipments exceed 120,000 units in October 2025

On November 11, 2025, RoboSense announced that its October lidar shipments surpassed 120,000 units, setting a new monthly record.

The company confirmed that its 120,000th digital lidar unit was delivered to a leading global new energy vehicle manufacturer.

RoboSense's digital lidar products are built on its in-house chip technology and fully digital SPAD-SoC + VCSEL architecture, driving strong demand across global OEMs.

RoboSense formed its chip development team in 2017 and achieved a major breakthrough in SPAD-SoC technology in 2022, making it one of the few companies globally with in-house transmit, receive, and processing chips meeting AEC-Q automotive-grade standards.

The company's mass-production product lineup includes EM4, EMX, and E1 lidars, all in scaled production and delivery.

The EM4 (520-line) lidar, designed for L3 autonomous driving, began mass rollout in late September 2025 on premium intelligent models such as Zeekr 9X, MG IM6, and IM LS9.

The EM4 offers a 300-meter detection range at 10% reflectivity and a maximum range of 600 meters, providing up to 70% more response time for automated systems.

The EM4 supports custom configurations of 520, 720, 1,080, and 2,160 lines, meeting ultra-high-definition requirements.

It has received mass-production nominations from Geely Auto Group, SAIC's IM Motors, leading global electric pickup manufacturers, and joint ventures of a major European luxury brand.

Based on the same architecture, the EMX lidar supports 192-, 256-, and 384-line variants and began volume deliveries in early September 2025.

It delivers 2.88 million points per second, 0.08° × 0.1° global angular resolution, 300-meter detection range, and 20 Hz frame rate.

The EMX has received nominations from Geely Auto Group, FAW Hongqi, and was selected as the sole lidar supplier for 32 vehicle models at a leading new energy automaker.

These achievements highlight RoboSense' leadership in digital lidar mass production and its expanding role in global intelligent driving systems.
