Gasgoo.com (Shanghai March 3) - China now has the second most development electric vehicle charging network in the world, according to a report from the China News Service. The country has constructed 87 charging stations, 5,179 charging machines and 7,031 charging posts covering 26 cities, the highest concentration of electric vehicle stations in the world.
Officials involved with construction of the network said that the country now imports 240 million tons of crude oil, constituting 54% of total oil intake. China is also responsible for 28% of the world's carbon dioxide emissions. The officials acknowledged widespread praise for electric cars due to their high efficiency and zero emissions, as well as their other advantages such as low noise levels.
The country needs to further construction of the charging network in order to support greater use of these vehicles. Currently the country is supporting 12 projects with that goal in mind, as well as constructing specialized research centers for car batteries.
In 2001, China expanded the electric network to cover the Bohai Economic Rim and Yangtze River Delta. In order to satisfy the estimated 50,000 electric vehicles to be on Chinese roads by 2015, the country will construct 2,351 new charging stations and 22 charging posts by the end of the Twelth Five-Year Guideline initiative (2011-2015).
