Gasgoo.com (Shanghai July 2) - Zhengzhou Nissan's head of overseas operations made a visit to three Middle Eastern countries last week, Beijing News reported today. According to various reports, the purpose of the visit was to research the possibility of the joint venture expanding into the Middle East.

Zhengzhou Nissan's Ethiopian knockdown factory began production in May. The factory manufactures the Dongfeng Oting SUV (pictured above) and Rich pickup truck, among other models. The factory is the third of its kind in Africa, with the JV also possessing production sites in Angola and Sudan.

Zhengzhou Nissan aims to increase its sales overseas by 70 percent this year. The JV also has plans to increase its exports to 28,000 vehicles by 2016. If it is able to meet that goal, exports will constitute 15 percent of its total sales. Zhengzhou Nissan began doing business overseas relatively late, due in part to export restrictions formerly put in place by Nissan. The JV's sales network now covers over 20 countries. In addition to Dongfeng models, the JV also sells the Nissan Cabstar (pictured below) truck overseas.
