Gasgoo.com (Shanghai January 8) - The State Council has recently held a conference on the development plan for energy-saving and new energy vehicles for 2011 to 2020 and has determined that it is still in need of revision, China Securities News reported. The information comes from a statement made by Yang Yusheng academician from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, on the floor of the China and the Future of Global New Energy Vehicle summit held in Beijing late last week.
The development plan, which has been in the media spotlight since its announcement, has been delayed due to constant revision. Some reports predict that the new plan will differ from previous policies in that it will not focus only on electric vehicles, but give more support to hybrid and other new energy automobiles.
According to Zhen Zijian, the Ministry of Science and Technology's deputy director of the office for electric vehicles, domestic and foreign research done on new energy vehicles will help lay the groundwork for new policies. However, the introduction of new energy-saving models still depends on how enterprises view their development and the status of the automobile market as a whole.
The fact that hybrids are performing above expectations has helped them gain more credibility in the eyes of the government. Mr. Zhen comments that, as developing the new energy industry will take a lot of time, the problem of high emission rates in Chinese cities is still extremely urgent, so more support should be given to hybrids.
