Gasgoo.com (Shanghai December 28) - A total of 82 recalls have been made this year, with more than 1.8 million vehicles affected, the Securities Times reported today. Of the number recalled, over one million vehicles were made by Guangqi Honda.
The statistics show that 38 recalls were for Chinese-made automobiles (the majority of which were from foreign joint ventures), while 44 were for imported models. By comparison, 60 domestically made and 63 imported models were recalled in 2010. However, the actual number of vehicles recalled shows a different side to the story. The 38 Chinese recalls this year affected over 1.7 million vehicles, compared with one million last year. Recalls of imports, meanwhile, were just over 170,000 vehicles last year, and did not even reach 110,000 this year.
Chinanews.com, quoting a CCTV report, compiled a list of the manufacturers with the most vehicles recalled this year, which are as follows: Guangqi Honda (1.14m units), Shanghai GM (246,468), Changan Ford Mazda (88,082), Beijing Hyundai (72,868) and Dongfeng PSA (63,491). In a recall made in August, Guangqi Honda ordered a recall of over 750,000 Accords (pictured), Odysseys and Spiriors due to a drive train defect, setting a record for the single largest recall ever made in China.
Dong Lequn, head of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine's Law Enforcement Department, said that the organization was taking efforts to better manage automobile recalls. Mr. Dong added that most manufacturers realize that recalls are not only done to fix problems due to poor production quality, but also an act of responsibility. Of all vehicles recalled this year, over 90 percent very serviced properly.
