Guangzhou to help auto industry through crisis

Shanghai, December 5 (Gasgoo.com) Auto industry is forecast to face a tough year in 2009 due to shrinking market demand. Guangzhou municipality is to take measures to help its auto industry, Shenzhen Evening News said, citing Guangzhou vice Mayor Chen Deming.

Chen said the local government will help the auto industry in five aspects, including strengthening joint ventures, supporting domestic brands, creating the stimulus system for automakers attracting talents, sharpening essential competitiveness of automakers and further developing ancillary facilities for automobiles.

Statistics showed that Guangzhou's sedan output for the first three quarters totaled 653,000 units, surpassing Shanghai for the first time to be number one in China’s sedan production.

Chen announced that Guangzhou aims to produce 1.5 million sedans and 1.2 million engines by 2010.
