Shanghai GM's May sales up 50% to 56,011 cars
Shanghai, June 1 (Gasgoo.com) Shanghai GM, General Motors' passenger car joint venture in China, sold 56,011 vehicles in May, rising more than 50% year on year and overtaking April's sales growth, Gasgoo.com said today, citing the company’s statement.
Shanghai GM's May sales were driven by demands for its Buick and Chevrolet brands. Last month, Shanghai GM sold 37,575 cars of the Buick brand, including 6,440 units of the Buick New Regal and 23,100 units of the Buick New Excelle.
The Chevrolet brand saw its May sales hit 17,889 units, with the newly launched Chevrolet Cruze selling 6,834 units and becoming a hot-selling model of the company.
The launch of the Buick Regal mid-size sedan in March and the Chevrolet Cruze compact sedan in April boosted Shanghai GM's sales over the past two months.
In April, Shanghai GM saw its sales rise 34.7% from the same month last year to 55,245 units, with sales of the Buick brand rising 63.6% to 38,071 units.
In the coming few months, Shanghai GM will release the Buick New Regal 2.0T, all-new Buick Regal, all-new Cadillac SRX and other new models to the market. GM expects better sales and growth in China while facing bankruptcy back in its U.S. home.
