Beijing Auto May sales up 42% to 111,372 units

Shanghai, June 8 (Gasgoo.com) Latest data show that Beijing Automotive Industry Holding (BAIC, Beijing Auto) sold 111,372 vehicles in May, up 42.5% from a year earlier, Auto Weekly reported today.

Sales of the company’s vehicles in the first five months this year reached 477,400 units, up 25.8% year on year (y/y).

Beijing Hyundai, a joint venture between Beijing Auto and Hyundai Motor, has seen its sales grow rapidly since the January. Its monthly sales hit 50,000 units for the first time in April, and reached 50,587 in May, up 78.6% y/y.

From January to May, Beijing Hyundai sold a total of 210,000 cars, up 60.8% y/y, with the Elantra and its Chinese version Yuedong as the hot-selling mid-size sedan models in the China market.

In May, Yuedong sold 23,900 units, and Elantra sold 16,100 units, increasing by 1,000 and 800 units, respectively, over their sales in April.
