Shanghai, August 27 (Gasgoo.com) Chinese carmaker Chery Auto will add six assembly plants overseas this year, expanding its global production network to 15 countries and regions, China Daily reported yesterday.

"Construction of the assembling facilities in Taiwan, Syria and Thailand has been completed, while the plant in Venezuela is still waiting for the local government's approval," an executive of Chery said.

Chery's A3 compact car recently rolled off the production line in Taiwan, and the company will release the model in a few days on the island. Production of Chery's QQ mini-car also started recently in Thailand.

The company will introduce more models to Syria later this year for local production, including its Tiggo SUV and A3 compact, targeting African markets.

The executive did not disclose the other two of the six overseas locations in which Chery will build its assembly plants this year.

Last week, the company officially launched its business operations in Brazil, with a plan to establish 55 dealerships across the country this year. Chery remains interested in setting up a factory in Brazil.

As a successful Chinese auto exporter, Chery Auto has sold its vehicles to more than 60 countries and regions in Asia, Europe, Africa and South America.
