Shanghai, April 15 (Gasgoo.com) China's independent automaker Chery Automobile Co. Ltd. will give first priority to using battery products of Tianneng Power International Ltd. when making new-energy vehicles, the two Chinese companies recently announced.

Under their agreement signed in Hong Kong on March 26, Chery Auto and Tianneng Power will cooperate in the highly potential area of new-energy vehicles, including electric-car technology, marketing and after-sales service. Tianneng will develop and produce power batteries for Chery's electric vehicles.

Chery Auto displayed its electric vehicle QQEV at the signing ceremony. The company will start mass-production of the model and bring it to the market later this year. The output is predicted to exceed 10,000 units in 2010. Chery believes the QQEV will sell better than its legendary QQ models.

In 2010, Chery Auto will strive for 80% growth in sales to 900,000 vehicles. In particular, it aims to sell 420,000 Chery-branded vehicles, 150,000 Kerry products, and 100,000 vehicles under the brands of Riich and Rely.

Tianneng Power, the largest motive battery supplier in China, started mass-production of motive batteries for electric vehicles in June 2009. The company's products are used by automakers in more than 10 countries.
