FAW Jiefang truck sales in May up 84% to 27,281 units

Shanghai, June 11 (Gasgoo.com) FAW Jiefang Automotive Co. Ltd, a commercial vehicle subsidiary of China's auto giant FAW Group, sold 27,281 trucks in May, up 84% from a year earlier and up 2.6% from the previous month, the company said this week.

The company expanded its market share by 2% in May, when the domestic truck market demand fell slightly to 137,000 vehicles.

The truck manufacturer's monthly sales have exceeded 20,000 units for five consecutive months this year. From January to May, its sales surged 156% year on year to 123,000 trucks, compared with the industry's average growth of 70%.

Sales of Jiefang trucks in the first quarter soared 274.5% year on year to 69,400 units. In the January to April period, the company sold 96,027 vehicles, up 188%. The April sales reached 26,590 units.

FAW Group, partner of Toyota and Volkswagen, expects its annual auto sales to hit 4 million units by 2015, with its own-brand vehicles to account for 50%. Its sales grew 27% to 1.94 million units last year and are targeted at 2.3 million for this year.
