Geely to set up transmission plant in Shandong
Shanghai, June 17 (Gasgoo.com) The world's second largest independent transmission company, Australia DSI (Drivetrain Systems International), which was acquired by Geely in 2009, will start its production in China. Last week, Geely started constructing its own production base of transmission in Shandong.
The completion of this project will lead to an annual production capacity of 300,000 units of 6-speed automatic transmission and 100,000 units of gasoline engines.
It is said that the total investment of Geely's transmission plant in Jining, Shandong, will reach 1.6 billion yuan. After the construction, Geely is responsible for the technology absorption and digestion of the production line design and make sure its optimization, improvement and adjustment are in accordance with customers' demands in the domestic market.
The first one to be put into production will be the high-torque 6-speed automatic transmission, with an annual capacity of 300,000 units. The transmission applies to SUVs or sedans with an output volume of 1.8L or above it.
"At the end of this year, Vision (Yuanjing) will be the first vehicle model to come into the market with DSI new transmission. Emgrand's (Dihao) SUV, EC8 series and cabs of MBH (Manganese Bronze Holdings, Plc.) will adopt the DSI new transmission later. At the beginning of next year, all technical matching of Geely's nine models of cars will be completed,"said An Huicong, vice president of Geely Holding Group.
