Shanghai July 23 (Gasgoo.com) An insider from BMW said with the launch of BMW 5 series' long wheelbase edition to the market in August, BMW 3-series will resume local production in China.

In January this year, in order to prepare for the local production of the long wheelbase edition of BMW 5-series, BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd. conducted a comprehensive adjustment of the production line in its first plant. After the adjustment, BMW 3 series' 325i luxury model, 320i luxury model and 320i modern model will be imported.

It is reported that in addition to the upgrade of the production line, BMW's adjustment of its first plant also includes production capacity expansion, which aims to ease the capacity pressure of BMW Brilliance.

Data from BMW Group show that in 2009, sales of BMW Brilliance exceeded 47,000 vehicles, surpassing its first plant's production capacity of 45,000 vehicles. Qi Yumin, president of Brilliance Group said the upgrade of the production line will expand the production capacity of its first plant to 75,000 vehicles.

Meanwhile, BMW Brilliance's second plant with a production capacity of 300,000 units broke ground in June and will start production in 2012. BMW X1 entry-level edition and new 3-series models will again be put into production here.

BMW 5-series and old 3-series models will be produced in BMW Brilliance's first plant.
