FAW-Jilin starts construction of new microvan plant

FAW-Jilin Automobile Co., Ltd. broke ground on a new plant with an annual capacity of 400,000 units on June 13.

The new plant covers an area of 700,000 square meters, and includes stamping, welding, painting, general assembly, resin workshops and test grounds. The facility is scheduled to enter production by June 2012, said Hu Hanjie, general manager of FAW-Jilin.

FAW-Jilin is the microvan production base of its parent company FAW Group. "Currently, the microvan segment is the second fastest growing market after passenger cars," a source from FAW-Jilin said, adding that "FAW Group has formed a strategic policy to develop microvans." The company also eyes further expansion to correspond with market demands.
