Mercedes-Benz to recall imported trucks in China
Shanghai November 5 (Gasgoo.com) German automaker Daimler AG will recall 80 units of its Mercedes-Benz trucks in China staring November 10, the Beijing Times reported Friday, citing a statement posted on the website of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ).
The recall affects 51 units of the Mercedes-Benz Arctos 934 produced between February 1 and May 27 2010, and 29 units of the Mercedes-Benz Atego 970 manufactured from February 2, 2004 to May 31, 2008.
The first model recalled is in that the contact surface between the floating bridge hub and brake disc mounting bolts does not meet the requirements that will affect fastening performance, which may cause bolts to become loose during running, reducing the locking force of the brake disc.
The second model recalled is because excessive force is given to the support rail that holds the front of the fuel tank, while the contact face between the support rail and mounting bolts is too small, which may lead to cracking contact face or the support rail falling apart completely. Without any support, the fuel tank will sink, causing friction to the road and oil leak.
The automaker said it would re-tighten the mounting bolts on the Arctos trucks and replace the support rail on the Atego trucks at no charge to owners. The connection board will also be added to the joints between the support rail and mounting brackets on the Atego trucks to ensure safety.
