Volvo XC60 compact SUV hits Indian market

Volvo’s fourth crossover soft-roader dubbed XC30 was launched earlier in March this year with the company announcing further additions to its portfolio in the near future. Featuring state-of-the-art technology, unparalleled luxury accommodations, the new Volvo XC60 has finally been unleashed by Volvo Auto India for the compact luxury segment in India.

Volvo XC60 machines the high performance latest generation D5 Twin-Turbo diesel engine and is reportedly the only SUV in its division to deliver matchless features like Continuously Controlled Chassis Concept (FOUR-C), Power Tailgate, Laser Assisted Automatic Braking (City Safety), Turn with Steering Lights (Active Bending Lights) along with Haldex AWD (All Wheel Drive) with Instant Traction and more.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, Paul de Voijs, Managing Director, Volvo Auto India, stated, “Volvo XC60 is a perfect embodiment of our brand’s core attributes of safety, comfort, quality, Scandinavian design and innovation. Heart-stopping looks coupled with innovative technology and off-road capabilities, it is a perfect blend of style and practicality. We are confident that in India, Volvo XC60 will give us a competitive edge in its segment.”

With a new-era Scandinavian design, curvaceous rear, micro-optical rear tail lamp cluster sporting LED technology along with an embedded trapezoidal grille with a large iron mark, the XC60 exudes illustrious surface characteristics. The car’s interior is reported to be driver oriented and designed to create a dynamic feel as the lines on panels as well as surfaces link different interior panels with each other to create a harmonious style.

Integrating Dynamic Stability and Traction Control (DSTC), several advanced braking technologies such as Ready Alert brakes, Hydraulic brake assist, ABS with Electronic brake force distribution and Adaptive brake lights have been included. The XC60 also infuses various protective advanced safety technologies like Side Airbags, Roll-over Protection System (ROPS), Side Impact Protection system (SIPS), Whiplash Protection System (WHIPS), 2-stage airbags, Seatbelt pre-tentioners and Inflatable Curtain (IC).

Additionally, the luxurious offering is bolstered by a D5 Twin Turbo diesel engine with Peizo high-pressure technology. A maintenance free diesel particulate filter efficiently decreases soot particles in exhaust gases up to 95 percent (and advanced emission control contributes to low nitrogen oxide level) with an official mileage of 13.8 kmpl.

With two-toned leather interiors with a unique X theme on the seats, it boasts of ergonomically crafted seating with emphasized side supports. Further, it comes with comfortable padding along with seatbelts for both front and rear seats. Alongside leather-clad classic wood steering wheels, an illuminated lockable glove box, flat folding three-section rear seat with 40-20-40 split and high quality textile-leather upholstery, a unique floating centre console is also present which is faintly angled towards the driver to improve driver dynamics. Other optional features include Collision Warning with Auto Brake, Adaptive Cruise Control also in slow queues, Blind Spot Information System, Lane Departure Warning, Driver Alert Control, and Premium Sound with Dolby Pro-logic II Dynaudio with USB and iPod Music Interface and Bluetooth hands-free system.

An assortment of accessories such as Front and Rear Park Assist Camera, Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE) with dual 7 inch screens and dual DVD, Satellite Navigation System, 19-inch alloy wheels, running boards smoothly integrated with the sills and side cuff plate surfacing a stylish matte aluminium finish along with front and rear skid plates.

Imported in India from the company’s manufacturing facility in Ghent, Belgium as CBUs, the Volvo XC60 can be purchased for Rs. 39.5 Lakhs (Ex-showroom, Delhi) and Rs. 41.41 Lakhs (Ex-showroom, Mumbai, incl. Octroi) from Volvo’s dealerships throughout the country beginning this month.
