Volvo is recalling 7,420 2009-'11 S40, 2009-'11 S60, 2009-'11 V50 and 2010-'11 XC60 vehicles with power front passenger seats because the end stops for the seats may be missing, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

"The front seat rail's detection system was manufactured incorrectly and may permit the passenger to forward the seat beyond the intended maximum," said NHTSA in its recalls summary of the problem. "Positioning of the seat beyond the intended maximum can cause increased risk of injury to the passenger in the event of a crash."

In other documentation filed with the federal government, Volvo said it has not received any reports alleging injuries, fatalities or crashes related to this recall. It said the end stops for the front passenger seat were found to be missing on a vehicle being prepared for a crash test.

Volvo dealers will inspect the front passenger side seat rails for the presence of an "end stop" and repair the vehicles as necessary. NHTSA said that Volvo has not yet provided an owner notification schedule. Owners can contact Volvo at (800) 458-1552.
