Hyundai-Kia Nov sales in China up 17% on rising demand

Shanghai December 14 (Gasgoo.com) South Korea's Hyundai Kia Automotive Group said sales once again broke the 100,000 unit mark in a single month in the Chinese market, rising 17% compared to November 2009 as it sold more Elantra and Verna cars, and SUVs, pcauto.com reported Tuesday, citing a company statement.

Hyundai Kia sold 946,685 vehicles, excluding the imported Hyundai and Kia vehicles, in China in the first eleven months this year, up 23% from a year earlier, according to the statement.

Hyundai's joint venture with Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Corp (BAIC) continued strong sales growth of approximately 18% for November, selling 67,727 vehicles.

Amid the figures, the Hyundai Elantra and Elantra Yuedong cars contributed 34,537 units, the Hynidai ix35 launched April contributed 13,804 units, while the Hyundai Verna launched August recorded sales of 10,000 units.

Dongfeng Kia Yueda, a joint venture between Dongfeng Motor Corp, Kia Motors and Jiangsu Yueda Investment Co., also had good performance in the domestic market last month, when it boosted sales to 33,033 units, a year-on-year increase of 13%. Of which sales of the Kia Forte, Cerato and Sportage models reached 23,947 units, accounting for more than half of the total.

Hyundai Motor and its affiliate Kia Motors reported global sales of 314,569 units and 222,116 units in November, respectively. The combined sales of 536,685 units were 16.9% over the same period last year.
