Land Rover sues Geely over copyright infringement
Gasgoo.com (Shanghai February 28) - Land Rover has officially filed a lawsuit against Geely arguing that the Zhejiang based manufacturer's use of the company's Chinese name (luhu, literally 'land tiger') constitutes copyright infringement, the Beijing Morning Post reported today. The claim, which was originally sent to the national Trademark Appraisal Committee, was rebuked, leading to Land Rover's decision to take legal action. The case is currently being reviewed.
Geely registered the luhu name in 1999, causing an uproar in the industry and confusion among consumers and the general public. Geely did not use the name, but the British marquee was still discontent, who later ordered the government to issue an order preventing usage.
