GM Opel executive Frank Weber to join BMW
Dow Jones Newswires (Frankfurt) - Frank Weber, the head of product planning at General Motors Co.'s (GM) European Opel unit, has quit his post to join German luxury car maker BMW AG (BMW.XE), a person familiar with the situation told Dow Jones Newswires on Friday.
A spokesman for BMW declined to comment.
A spokesman for Opel on Thursday confirmed a report by trade publication Automotive News Europe that Weber was leaving the automaker.
Weber is the second top-level executive at GM's troubled European division to leave the company in less than a year following Managing Director Hans Demant's departure to Volkswagen AG (VOW.XE).
Before taking over as Opel's head of product planning, Weber was in charge of GM's closely watched Chevrolet Volt electric-car project.
