South Korea: Hyundai, Renault Samsung recall some models for defects

The Chosunilbo - Hyundai Motor and Renault Samsung will recall some models over safety issues.

Hyundai decided to recall 19,211 units of the YF Sonata manufactured from March 30 to May 17 last year, and 8,050 units of the Tucson ix produced between Feb. 27 and April 17 last year, to fix defective reflectors, the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs said Sunday.

Some of the vehicles subject to the recall failed to meet safety standards for the reflectors, which are important in helping trailing drivers to estimate the distance between the cars.

Renault Samsung also decided to launch a repair service campaign for faulty rear reflectors on 38,742 SM3s rolled out between April 1, 2010 and Jan. 16 this year.

The company is also recalling 55,648 SM5s manufactured before Oct. 30 last year and 65,157 SM3s produced between April 23, 2009 and Aug. 10, 2010. Some of these models may have defective air bags in the driver's seat.
