US wants to avoid giving China electric car technology
The Detroit News (Washington, D.C.) - Michigan's two U.S. senators urged the Obama administration to prevent China from requiring U.S. automakers to hand over advanced vehicle technology.
Democrats Carl Levin of Detroit and Debbie Stabenow of Lansing want the U.S. Trade Representative to block new Chinese regulations on electric vehicles and other advanced technologies. The senators called the regulation an effort "to prevent U.S. automakers from accessing the Chinese market."
China is in the process of drafting new rules as part of its "New Energy Vehicles plan," which seeks to advance hybrid and battery electric vehicle production in China.
