Ford's Chinese sales exceed 45000 in May
Gasgoo.com (Shanghai June 7) - Ford's Chinese sales topped 45,162 last month, Gasgoo.com (Chinese) reported today. The figure represents growth of 14 percent. Ford's Chinese sales totalled 230,068 units since the start of this year, 15 percent higher than first quarter last year.
Among its line-up, the Focus (pictured) helped pull in the customers, with 16,756 units sold in May alone, 33 percent higher than in 2010. Meanwhile, monthly sales of the Mondeo midsize, which made its Chinese debut this March, were just over 6,000.
Changan Ford Mazda, Ford's largest partner in China, sold just under 33,000 vehicles in May, growing 19 percent from last year, while quarterly sales hit 173,189 units (an increase of 4 percent). The joint venture has also signed an agreement with the government of Chongqing to manufacture transmissions in the system.
JMC, Ford's other Chinese JV partner, also saw positive growth last month.
