Construction begins on Beijing Benz's new engine factory
Gasgoo.com (Shanghai July 11) - The opening ceremony for Beijing Benz's new engine factory in Beijing's Yizhuang district was held yesterday, the Beijing Times reported today. The site is to be the manufacturer's first factory outside of its native Germany.
The factory is being co-developed by both the German and Chinese parties and will be an important part of the manufacturer's global development strategy. The factory, which has a total production capability of 250,000 units, is aimed to begin manufacturing in 2013.
Meanwhile, the manufacturer has also announced its intent to open a research and development center in the country. Daimler signed an agreement with BAIC to inject 2 billion euros ($2.85b) in Beijing Benz to complete the program.
