Gasgoo.com (Shanghai September 27) - BYD has announced that it has made a new assessment of the number of staff working in its automobile business, Economic Observer News reported today. Among its departments, BYD's modeling, plastics engineering, total assembly and general engineering departments have already completed their staff cuts.

Follow a large reduction in its sales company staff, outsiders have been eagerly watching the countdown to the manufacturer's deadline of September 30 to make even further employee reductions. According to some reports, BYD will be shrinking its automobile business by close to 40 percent at that time–reducing its staff from 17,000 workers to 10,000. Company Spokesman Li Yunfei denied the massive 7,000 worker cut, but confirmed that BYD is currently in the process of cutting staff.

Falling sales and deceasing profits are seen as the motivating factors behind BYD's recent staff cuts.
