BMW engines to be made at Shenyang factory

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai November 28) - BMW has announced its intent to manufacture engines at its second production site in Shenyang, Liaoning, the Beijing News reported today. The factory will build the Twin-Power Turbo I4 engine, which will be used in the X1 SUV to be manufactured in the country next year.

According to BMW officials, construction and logistics work has fundamentally been completed, with test production of the X1 (pictured) already underway. The new Twin-Power Turbo engine is the same one used in the overseas 320i and 328i models, and was previously used in the European 523i and 528i, as well as the North American Z4.

According to BMW statistics, the 5 Series' coverage of the Chinese market has increased 12 percent from last year. The manufacturer expects its Chinese sales to exceed 200,000 this year.
