Gasgoo.com (Shanghai December 22) - Geely has officially begun work on its automatic transmission project, cqnews.net reported today. The new project, which is located in Chongqing's Tongliang county, will not only be used for Geely's automobiles, but also supply automotive parts for other mid- to high-end models. The project will also help stimulate the regional auto part market.

The project was first agreed upon in 2009. Shortly after, Geely-allied Chengdu Gaoyuan Automobile Industry and Australian Drivetrain Systems International Holding established a new company in Chongqing to supervise the project. After its completion, Geely hopes to increase its production of seven-speed DCT systems by 30,000 units.

According to reports, the new project is expected to bring in 3.6 billion yuan ($566.18m) in sales for the manufacturer. Test use of the auto parts is expected to begin next year.
