BMW to recall over 120000 5 and 6 Series in China

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai March 27) - BMW China Automotive Trading and Brilliance BMW have sent a report to the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine for the recall of imported and domestically made 5 and 6 Series models in China, auto.sohu.com reported today. The recall is being made in accordance to the Provisions on the Administration of Recall of Defective Auto Products, and will target 5 and 6 Series models manufactured between May 2003 and September 2010. 120,246 vehicles in China are reportedly affected. The recall will begin on May 10.

The vehicles in question are being recalled due to an improperly installed cable covering in the trunk battery. The flaw may prevent the vehicle from starting, or in extreme circumstances, cause a fire. BMW will conduct free inspection and maintenance of all affected vehicles to ensure that the issue is resolved.

BMW AG announced a global recall due to the flaw earlier this week. A total of 1.3 million vehicles worldwide are reported to be affected.
