Beijing Hyundai's third factory to begin work in June

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai June 4) - Beijing Hyundai's third factory, which was originally slated to begin operation next month, will begin production this month, Beijing News reported today. Construction work on the site began in the end of 2010. The site's first product will be the China-exclusive Hyundai Elantra Langdong.

The joint venture's third factory is designed to produce 400,000 vehicles and 400,000 engines annually. In addition to its two other sites, the new factory will boost Beijing Hyundai's capacity to one million vehicles, helping it overcome problems with limited production ability. The site has been built according to Hyundai's global standards. Not only will it be able to manufacture several of Hyundai's newest hybrid models, it can also share production of certain vehicles produced at the JV's other sites.

The site's first model, the Langdong (pictured), is the Chinese version of the eighth-generation Elantra. It will be available in the country alongside the car's sixth and seventh generations, the latter of which is sold under the Yuedong name.

The JV has also announced its plans to introduce three new models to China, including a new SUV which will be placed above the ix35.
