Ford sells 49000 vehicles in China in May
Gasgoo.com (Shanghai June 8) - Ford China sold a total of 49,000 vehicles in May, Caijing reported today. The figure represents year-on-year growth of eight percent for the manufacturer.
The sales result is good news for joint venture partner Changan, which has recently been performing poorly. Changan Ford Mazda sold a total of 35,000 vehicles in the month, 23 percent more than last May. BOC International Analyst Wang Yusheng went as far as saying Changan's growth "depends on Ford."
However, Ford's other partner, Jiangling, was not as fortunate. JMC sales of Ford vehicles totaled 14,000 units, 16 percent less than last May.
Ford China Board Chairman and CEO David Schoch was pleased with the manufacturer's performance. He specifically mentioned the new Ford Focus (pictured). According to Mr. Schoch, the Focus is available in over 400 dealerships across the country. He also confirmed Ford's intent to introduce 15 new models to the Chinese market by 2015.
Ford has devoted a great deal of energy in expanding its production capacity in China. According to plans, the manufacturer plans to have a total Chinese production capacity of 1.2 million vehicles by 2015.
