Mercedes-Benz to set up Western China business headquarters in Sichuan
Gasgoo.com (Shanghai June 19) - Mercedes-Benz made headlines in the Chinese automobile industry when it announced that it would be attending the Xi'an International Automotive Industry Exhibition, which opened its doors last Thursday. The German manufacturer, which is the first premium brand to attend the show, brought over a total of 26 different vehicles, including AMG and Smart models. One of those models, the Smart 2012, even made its market debut at the event.
At the same time, Mercedes-Benz announced that its Western China business headquarters will be located in Sichuan's capital city of Chengdu, morning.sc.cn reported today. The site will play a crucial role in further developing the manufacturer's marketing and customer service operations in the country.
According to Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing Björn Hauber (pictured below), Mercedes-Benz sold a total of 87,970 vehicles in China from January to May. The result represents 13 percent year-on-year growth for the manufacturer. Mr. Hauber emphasized that Western China, specifically Xi'an and Chengdu, figure in prominently in the manufacturer's overall business strategy. He stated that the manufacturer is putting a lot of effort in making sure its dealerships and aftermarket services are able to meet the expectations of customers from the region.
