VW China has yet to comment on cases of intellectual property infringement by FAW Group

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai July 31) - Reports alleging that FAW Group has been copying auto part technology from partner Volkswagen have begun circulating throughout the media. According to a recent report appearing in the German press, VW is currently investigating four cases of intellectual property infringement by partner FAW. FAW, for its part, is suspected to be copying VW engine and transmission technology for its own brand vehicles destined for sale in Russia.

Despite the severity of the allegations, VW China has yet to officially comment on the case. When reached for comment, the Nanfang Daily reported that they were unable to get in touch with any representatives from the company.

According to the reports, the FAW may be using illegal replications of VW's MQ200 transmission (pictured above) and EA111 four-valve engine. The EA111 is one of the German manufacturer's key engines, powering both the Polo and Golf, while the transmission system is used by a variety of VW and Skoda vehicles. Several of those models are currently available for sale in Russia.

China is currently VW's largest market, with the manufacturer having sold a total of 1.3 million vehicles in the country in the first half of the year. The manufacturer, which currently possesses joint venture partnerships with both SAIC and FAW, has plans to expand production in the country. VW and FAW signed an agreement three months ago to continue their partnership for another 25 years.
