All BYD models to begin using self-developed transmission technology in 2013
Gasgoo.com (Shanghai November 16) - BYD will begin equipping all of its models with its self-developed DCT transmission next year, the Beijing Times reported today.
According to internal sources from BYD, three of the manufacturer's vehicle series will be equipped with the DCT transmission. The sources add that model prices will slightly rise in order to deal with the higher costs of using the self-made transmission. The new transmission will not completely replace existing options, instead being available on higher-trim variants.
BYD first premiered the new transmission at last year's Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition. The 1.5 turbocharged version of the BYD G6, which made its debut at that time, was the first vehicle to be equipped with the new transmission. The F3R, G3, L3 and G3R are also powered by the transmission. The transmission technology is notable for the significant fuel savings it offers.
