Brilliance BMW to increase proportion of Chinese-made BMWs
Gasgoo.com (Shanghai November 26) - Increasing the ratio of vehicles manufactured domestically in China is the trend foreign manufacturers have been following over the past few years. Luxury manufacturers are no exception. In a report appearing in the China Business Daily today, Brilliance BMW Sales and Marketing Vice President Daniel Kirchert stated that the proportion of domestically manufactured BMWs will definitely increase over the next few years.
In the statement, Dr. Kirchert made a point to emphasize market demand. "If we see that a specific imported model has large market potential, we will consider manufacturing it domestically," he said. The current ratio of imported to domestically made BMWs is approximately even.
According to its plans, Brilliance BMW will begin manufacturing three new models at its new Tiexi District production site in Liaoning's capital of Shenyang, two 3 Series sedans and the X1 SUV (pictured). The factory will be able to produce 300,000 vehicles annually.
BMW has sold almost 265,000 vehicles in China from January to October, equivalent to year-on-year growth of 35 percent. Dr. Kirchert anticipates growth in the country's luxury automobile market to remain above ten percent, which is something BMW hopes to continue to take advantage of.
