BMW calling back 570000 cars in US, Canada
MENAFN - The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that BMW is calling back nearly 570,000 vehicles in the US and Canada due to a problem with battery cables, reported AP.
NHTSA said the cable connectors and a fuse box terminal in the cars can be damaged over time which can break the electrical link between the trunk-mounted battery and the fuse box at the front.
In such case, cars could lose electrical power, which could halt engines unexpectedly.
The recall will include 3-Series sedans, wagons, convertibles and coupes manufactured between 2007 and 2011, in addition to 1-Series coupes and convertibles made between 2008 and 2012, and the Z4 sports car manufactured between 2009 and 2011.
According to the German carmaker, one minor collision in Canada has occurred due to the problem, but no injuries were reported.
It is worth noting that BMW will begin notifying owners in March, and dealers will replace the battery cable connector and secure it free of charge.
